SHEIKH KHALIFA MEDICAL CITY - my work place...

SHEIKH KHALIFA MEDICAL CITY or SKMC is the lone government hospital in the entire of Abu Dhabi. It is named after the former president of the country UAE (United Arab Emirates) - Sheikh Khalifa.
SKMC is a MAGNET accreditted hospital, such accredittation implies conformance to the international standards set by the accreditting institution. There are only few hospitals who were able to pass the MAGNET accreditation, one of which is SKMC - the only one in the entire of middle east.
To date, I have been assigned in the Cardiac ICU. There have been plenty of things that I need to know and I need to adjust on to but I am taking one thing at a time. Very honestly I have been learning a lot of things and procedures which I have not encountered in my almost 5 years of experience in the Philippines. In the picture is my uniform in SKMC.

A part of my contract in my work here in Abu Dhabi, we were promised to have an accomodation of our own. True enough we were housed in a three storey villa with complete amenities and furnitures. Each room has 42 inches flat plasma TV with a very soft bed. A very good centralized air conditioning system is more than capable enough to take care the scorching heat of the sun.

The villa is so spacious that the 9 of us housed in this villa seldom see each other. Security guards are on look 24/7 so you are very much certain that everything will be fine within the compound.

A coaster will fetch us at specific time schedules every time we go to the hospital for our duties. Telephones are free and so is the TFC. Whats making me miss the Philippines? There are plenty of things I miss in my country but the very thing I missed so much?..... Hearing the sound of raindrops falling in my head.... huhuhuhhuhu...

My brother in law in China is suddenly making me nuts!

These are just few of the way too alien words my brother in law kept on mumbling. He actually has this new Mercedes and a friend told him techniques on how to boost up the performance of his car and when he found out how effective it was he suddenly became so fanatic about these supercharger thing.

He was so fanatic on that thing that he even insisted that my other brother living here in the Philippines get a Nissan Supercharger for his newly bought Nissan car. What has gotten into him? He is really starting to get serious over these. But I talked to my sister, my brother in law's wife she said the reason why he is acting like that was because he was so delighted of the effects these supercharger thing did to his car. Very speedy experience huh, way to go bro!

NEW BUDDIES IN ABU DHABI

On these pics are my new buddies in Abu Dhabi, as everybody know so well, I have been quite lucky enough to work in one of the finest Cities in the Middle East - Abu Dhabi.

Abu Dhabi is the capital city of the country United Arab Emirates. The country have 7 emirates and one of which is the emirate where I worked ; Abu Dhabi. The very famous Dubai is just one of the 7 emirates of UAE, Rumors has it that Dubai is abetter place than in Abu Dhabi. But others said that it is not so much nice to live their as it is a relatively more expensive city compared to that of the Abu Dhabi.

Nonetheless, mine is concern not of wherever is the most expensive emirate, what I know is that both emirates are both very hot cities, and when I say it's hot? it is indeed way too hot!!!

My coming here to Abu Dhabi was quite a blessing, my mom who's been mocking me to wake me up every morning has been miles away, jejeje.. my bro in the US who keeps calling me up and kept bragging on what's new and what's hot have been quite so tame lately... or so I thought.
Kriiiiing... my mobile screamed, and wallah! Its my brother again. Amazingly he has been not so nosy on what I have been doing here, rather he kept on talking about Direct TV Promos and things about satellite TV. When I searched the net what I found was that these satellite television is a television delivered by means of communication satellite and is reveived by a satellite dish and a set-top box. I also learned that in many areas of the world these satellite televisions are able to provide a wide range of channels and services, often to areas that are not serviced by terrestrial or cable providers.

Really now, how advance can some other places get. My brother was even thankful that he was able to see this Satellite TV deals flashed in the screen of his televison, in fact he is way too excited to grab one of his own now. Yeah, that's my bro he never changes. but considering the advantages my bro cited when he talked about this satellite tv, hmmmm I think, it's worth a try.

SWINE FLU - SYMPTOMS

Used to be when I was still a medical representative I often have a difficult time making my booth presentable every time there are round table discussions, lectures, seminars and conferences. I have innovate and be resourceful, aside from thinking all the pressures I get every time I think of my sales quota I get to be pressured with things like this.

My friend Malou who used to be in the same company where I used to be working is now based in the US. We talked of different things we used to be doing when we were still in the same company. She said she is still working in the pharmaceutical industry as of now. And guess what, a great relief in her work! Deployment date moved to MAY 29 !!!

Astonished!

Stoned by the news I received today. Our deployment date was moved to May 29 instead of May 17. Which means I am stranded in Manila for quite a period of time. I am just actually taking things proactively. That is conditioning my mind that the delay would mean ample of time for me to know more of Metro Manila, that would have to entail a lot of strolling and walking and bar hopping and probably some beer drinking sessions. Hmmm I'm starting to find it fascinating.

To all my friends in Davao. I'm starting to miss you guyz, but I know we will soon be seeing again, Singapore? Right? Till then.

It was late part of 2008 when David Cook announced that he will possibly come to Manila on the first quarter of 2009. Everybody got so excited then, yet, he was not able to show up maybe due to other priorities and constraints.

And then just few weeks ago, not sure if the announcement came directly from Jomari Yllana, but there were hearsays that he’ll be the one producing David Cook’s concert and this time, he’ll be with David Archuleta.

With the recent happenings and updates, I think the long wait is over as David Cook and David Archuleta made a confirmation through their video blog entry (which can also be found on youtube).

David Cook, winner of season 7 of American Idol, is coming to Manila soon, together with his runner-up David Archuleta. The upcoming concert will be on May 16 at the SM Mall of Asia Open Grounds.

I was feeling quite hot tempered lately probably because I wasn't able to get much sleep. My monster bed kept on squeaking all night that I didn't get my most precious sleep leaving me half awake almost the entire part of my supposed to be good night sleep.

And whats rather more annoying is that my monster bed moves also every time I move. This is torture on the very sense of the word! How I wish I had a sleeping pill with me so that I won't be able to notice how annoying my bed was.

The day after my night of torment, I had decided to look at some new elegant designs of bed on the net. (Yes, I am going to fire that bed inside my room! and when I said fire what I meant was to literally lit a fire on it, jejejeeje kidding...)

Consequently, I came across this website of Time4sleep in the net and among the many Metal Beds displayed on their website what caught my eye the most was the Windsor design. It seemed very still, very regal and big.

You see, I am a person who spends more than half of my vacant time at room. Most often, I am on my bed during breakfast, lunch and dinner. What??? chicken Halloween costumes in the middle of April??? Here's the story guys...

My friends have been thinking of what better way to celebrate my despidida party, others were thinking of celebrating it in the beach, overnight stay perhaps, with tents all over the white sands of Samal Beach bringing along marinated pork ready for the grill. But some of my friends said that they have been to the beach lately, it's summer right? So the option was not considered.

My other not so naughty friend thought of spending it in a bar with girls, ehem... dancing on various levels of ledges, others perhaps on the poles doing their thing but, my wife said it's garbage,.. so garbage it is... jejejeje

My mom, out of the craziness she experienced when we had our Halloween Party insisted that we rent a vacant house and celebrate their wearing costumes of different horrible monsters. Going nuts??? Apparently, because my wife actually approved of it, in fact my bother in US will be coming home this time and is very excited to look for costumes already. (There's one crazy Frasco going home...) In fact he had bought already chicken Halloween costumes from an internet site in their place.

You heard it right, that's chicken Halloween costumes for the three of us!(that's together with my other bro, so there's three crazy Frasco wearing chicken Halloween costumes. silly, this is getting worst')And what's more worst? Harry Potter has been a movie I have followed so long , from different parts, from one sequel to another. I have actually tried reading the book but I think I'm not just the bookworm person who would just settle at one corner of the house and try to finish one chapter over the other.

How to Make a Paper Book Cover

Cut along the side seam of a brown paper grocery bag and cut out the bottom of the bag. You will be left with a rectangular sheet of paper that measures approximately 17 by 36 inches.
Step2
Place the paper horizontally on a flat work surface - logo side up.
Step3
Set your book on top of the paper. Center the book and use a pencil to mark the paper along the top and bottom edges of the book.
Step4
Remove the book from the paper and fold the top and bottom edges toward the center of the paper from the marked lines. Your book cover will now be the same height as your book.
Step5
Set the book, open, back on the paper, aligning it with the folds. Center the book and fold the left and right edges of the paper over the front and back covers of the book.
Step6
Check that the left edge of the paper reaches halfway across the inside front cover and that the right edge covers the same distance on the back cover when the book is closed. Trim the right and left edges of the paper if necessary.
Step7
Keep the left and right edges of the paper folded in on the front and back covers of the book.
Step8
Tape each fold in place at the top and bottom of the paper to form pockets for the front and back covers of the book. Use transparent cellophane tape and be sure not to tape the book itself.
Step9
Decorate the book cover with crayons, stickers or rubber stamps.

I think my sister in China is going nuts thinking about her collection of shoes!

I really don't know but her compulsion over her collection of shoes is way over than usual. She practically spent more than half of her earnings as a lead vocalist in their band in China just for those shoes she's been keeping in her closet for a very long time now.

Wollah!!! And what a surprise his husband is also now starting to collect shoes, i see it's so highly contagious.

The reason why I knew about her husband was that when I checked my sisters closet along side with her collection are yummy and fabulous Mens Shoes! And the wide array of Mens Shoes i saw was hmmmm... strangely fascinating to my eye, jejeje.

My brother in law was actually bragging about his new Bostonian Shoes which he bought just recently. Hmmm... I wonder now if he would let me borrow some of his collection.jejeje.. He was actually telling me how comfortable his new Bostonian Shoes was in his feet., the texture, the color - very very fabulous!

I'm actually considering now to have some collections of my own... jejeje - ' told you it's infectious. Mwuah!

Cirrhosis of the liver

What is cirrhosis of the liver?

Cirrhosis is scarring of the liver that involves the formation of fibrous (scar) tissue associated with the destruction of the normal architecture of the organ. It is the result of long-standing injury most commonly due to alcohol in excess but there are a number of other important causes.

The destruction of the normal architecture and the loss of liver cells prevents the liver from functioning normally. It plays an important part in digestion of food but it also has a major role in metabolising drugs and making proteins, including those that help the blood to clot.

Cirrhosis is a serious condition. Only 30 per cent of patients with this problem will survive five years after diagnosis and the outlook is worse if the cause is alcohol and the patient continues to drink.

What are the causes of the inflammation that leads to cirrhosis of the liver?

Alcohol excess: the rate of cirrhosis in a country is directly related to the average alcohol consumption in that country. Half of all cases of cirrhosis are due to alcohol excess.

Chronic viral hepatitis: the two important viruses are hepatitis B and hepatitis C. Cirrhosis due to hepatitis B is common in Africa and Asia. Hepatitis C is increasing in importance both in Europe and the US. Hepatitis A (infectious hepatitis) does not cause cirrhosis.

Primary biliary cirrhosis: this is an uncommon disease mainly affecting women. It is not due to alcohol. For some reason the body mounts an attack on the liver in patients with primary biliary cirrhosis.

Autoimmune chronic active hepatitis: another uncommon condition that results in the body's immune system attacking and destroying liver cells.

Drugs and chemicals: a number of drugs and chemicals can cause liver damage but few cause cirrhosis. Certain specialised drugs need monitoring for their effect on the liver.

Metabolic and inherited disorders: These are a number of uncommon conditions that allow the accumulation of toxins in the liver. The commonest is haemochromatosis, which causes excess deposits of iron in the liver.

What are the symptoms of liver cirrhosis?

The symptoms will depend on how much damage has occurred to the liver.

In the early stages there may be no symptoms at all and the disease may be discovered as a result of an investigation for another illness.

As the disease progresses, tiredness, weakness, lack of energy, loss of appetite, nausea and weight loss may develop.

In the later stages the liver is struggling to perform all its functions and any or all of the following symptoms may be present.

Jaundice: this is the yellowing of the skin (jaundice) and the eyes due to the failure of the liver to remove a substance called bilirubin from the blood.

Nail changes: the shape and appearance of the nails may change. They may be more curved (clubbing) and they may be white rather than pink.

Skin changes: about a quarter of patients will have darkening of the skin.

Fluid retention: this is common at some stage in cirrhosis. An important function of the liver is to rid the body of excess fluid through the kidneys and when it fails, fluid gathers in the legs (oedema) or in the abdomen (ascites).

Abnormal blood vessels: the commonest abnormality is a spider naevus, which is a spot surrounded by fine blood vessels. A red face is also common.

Easy bruising: nosebleeds and easy bruising occur as a result of abnormal blood vessels and delayed clotting because the liver does not make enough clotting proteins.

Enlargement of breasts in men: the liver destroys the female sex hormones and in cirrhosis these accumulate and cause enlargement of the breasts and shrinking of the testes in men.

In the very late stages of the disease, serious complications may occur. These include vomiting of blood, either from ulcers in the stomach or from leaking varicose veins in the lower end of the oesophagus (gullet). This is serious and requires hospital treatment.

The liver is responsible for removing poisonous substances from the blood. In cirrhosis, the blood may bypass the liver and these poisonous substances pass to the brain where they may result in alteration in brain function, causing confusion, drowsiness and finally coma. This is called hepatic encephalopathy. This is also serious and requires hospital treatment.

Who is at risk?

The more alcohol a person drinks, the more likely they are to develop cirrhosis. Women seem to be more susceptible than men. It is therefore advisable to restrict alcohol consumption to 28 units a week for men and 21 units a week for women (a unit of alcohol is a single measure of spirits, a half pint of ordinary beer or lager or a standard size glass of wine).

Patients who have ongoing infection with hepatitis B or hepatitis C virus.

Patients with primary biliary cirrhosis or autoimmune chronic active hepatitis.

Patients with metabolic or inherited disorders.

How can cirrhosis of the liver be prevented?

Limit the intake of alcohol.

Alcoholics should seek help.

Precautions should be taken to avoid getting hepatitis and if it is contracted it is important that it is treated.

Avoid contact with toxic chemicals at work.

HEY YAM READ THIS JEJEJEJE....

Most of the people drink for a whole range of reasons, but the most common one of all is just to be social.(Oh, c'mon !) This usually starts around high school or university and continue on into adulthood as we continue to socialize with adults, but the real root reasons for continuing to drink alcohol may never be known to us.

Our drinking habits can be influenced greatly by depression and stress, as we drink to forget or to feel relaxed to a point that our happiness is dependent on the contents of a green bottle.

For majority of us it just becomes habit forming like drinking a coke in the morning or smoking a cigarette after meals; alcohol intake is just another daily action. Although these habits in moderation can be considered acceptable, it becomes an issue when the frequency of the habit gets out of control.

A real tell tale symptom about going out and drinking is when you can't enjoy yourself without a drink inside you. If this is your case it may the time to consider the possibility that your habit has turned into an addiction.

When you have to begin explaining your decisions to your family and friends it should just be sufficient enough to tell them that you just want to refrain from drinking. TO SKETCH OR NOT TO SKETCH...

Sketching - this has been one of the pastimes I have been doing lately. I really don't intend to put my work in portrait but I also have no plans of putting it in garbage. I just actually keep it in my closet. In fact when my mom cleaned my room last week, she found one piece of my not so regal masterpieces jejeje... She was even surprised I know how to play tricks with pencil.

Sketching has been one of the most convenient way for me to ease out some stress from work. When I feel like I don't wanna talk to anybody what I usually do is to just put out a pen and a paper and start scribbling. I really I wished I am good at this. I have even read about those guys who can sketch fast. And they have found use of themselves huh... some even in the court room as court room artists.

The ability to quickly record impressions through sketching was found varied purposes in today's culture. Courtroom artists are usually sketchers. Sketches drawn to help authorities find or identify wanted people are called composite sketches. Street performers in popular tourist areas often include artists who sketch portraits within minutes.

My brother's not so big mouth have been mocking me for days about his recent project for his house in Ohio,USA. He intends to make some improvements to his house and make it more pleasant to his eyes. He actually bought his place from his friend and some of parts of the house are practically due for retirement already. jejejeje ( he actually sent me some of his houses' pics.)The doorknobs are busted technically for repair, and the exterior shutters aren't so good already.

Basol island is an isolated place somewhere in Surigao. The place is nice very private very soothing. It's definitely a place for those already stressed out in the city life. Guess what, we are just waiting for our visa for our migration at Abu Dhabi. A work as a SICU Nurse is already waiting for us there. Everything will hopefully be alright. When I had a talk with my mom she was actually excited too but was kinda worried on the kind of place that we will be staying there, the water? the electricity? the home furnitures?

We just had the best family reunion last October. Although it's quiet impossible to turn back time but I guess with our age right now it's still never too late to play funny games out of ourselves.

Fascinating because most of the sisters of my mother really spent so much to find a costume of their own. I was kinda difficult in our part to find costumes since most of the costumes available are for kids.

Actually together with my cousins, we strolled and searched every corners of the malls of Davao City to look for our costumes but all we found where sign boards saying "AVAILABLE Boys Halloween Costumes and Girls Halloween Costumes."

Heavens! Where in the world are we going to find our costumes for our reunion. My mom have to unload her entire closet just to look for her wedding dress the same dress she wore during their wedding with my dad of course!

My dad dared that he will be wearing one of the oldest briefs he had and play the part of a porno star! is he going nuts!? Everybody was practically going gaga over this costume party. I was thinking of wearing my nursing uniform during the party but isn't that so predictable in my part? Grrrrrr... my bro in states was actually farting off and laughing the whole time when he knew about our plan in our reunion party. He even wanted to go home for the party but sady he can't.

Alas! the time has come. The party! True enough many of the kids; boys and girls during the party had a great costume. Some wore a Tinker bell, Others wore fairy costumes, most of the boys though wore batman and superman costumes. My mom, as planned wore her wedding dress, and my dad,...yeah he wore his brief!... jejejeje but with 4 rolls of tissue paper covered over his body - his the mummy! Great! just dont remove the tissue papers ok? and me? yeah just as expected - the nurse. jejejeje

I’m not fond of fancy food,” she says in Filipino, eating the spam and eggs – spamsilog, actually – out of a Tupperware container with her right hand encased in a clear plastic baggie.

Charice would rather eat with her fingers like any true-blooded Pinoy, but then she wouldn’t want to get any grease on her Macbook’s keypad, would she?

The silver laptop is powered on in front of the dresser, revealing a Garfield screensaver.

It’s more than just a prop.

Speaking mainly in Filipino, she explains: “When I get sleepy, I lose my voice. So I need games on my laptop to keep me awake. I love gadgets – cellphones, iPods, laptop – dati napapanood ko lang sila sa TV, ngayon nabibili ko na sila (I used to just see them on TV, but now I can afford to buy them).”

Charice is wearing a floppy blue hat, with her big toothy grin and eyes that turn down at the corners in a broad, good-natured face that reminds one of Alice’s Cheshire cat, or Evisu, the Japanese god of wealth.

Like any 16-year-old girl, she giggles a lot, and it’s probably this natural, unforced quality that must have appealed so much to Oprah, Ellen Degeneres et. al., apart of course from the outsize voice that got everyone’s attention.

“Kalog po talaga ako (I’m really goofy),” she explains. “I’m a cheerful person. I only look serious when I’m performing on TV. People like me because I make them smile, although when I perform, they say I make them cry too, being the first Asian to have achieved this stature, this being the ’little girl with a big voice,’” she continues. “I felt really touched when Oprah Winfrey described me as the most talented girl in the world. Naisip ko na maraming talented sa mundo pero ako yung napili niya na sabihan ng ganoon (I thought, there are a lot of talented people in the world, but she chose me for that tag.) ”

Her cellphone rings.

Charice’s ringtone is a snippet of her Madison Square Garden duet with Celine Dion, a measure of the impossibly high esteem in which she holds “Miss Celine.” Of all the incredible achievements she’s racked up in such a short span of time – appearing on “Oprah” and “The Ellen Degeneres Show,” singing a duet with Andrea Bocelli and performing at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade – it’s still the highlight of her life thus far, a dreamlike moment during which she ascended to the higher realms and tasted nirvana.

Or in her own words:

“Talagang napaka-perfect kasi niya at napakabait kaya hanggang ngayon nandoon sya,” (She’s really so perfect and so kind, so until now, she’s up there),”she gushes.

And she would love nothing better than to record another duet with “Miss Celine,” God willing, on her international debut album, due next year from Warner Brothers. Or Josh Groban. But that’s really up to her managers and producers.

In the meantime, she’s happy to be our first truly bi-coastal star, or in local showbiz parlance a “lagare queen,” only her lagare involves juggling local performances with bookings in the US and other countries. In fact, international stardom has prompted the family to keep an apartment in LA, although Charice is more often on the road, racking up frequent-flyer miles and living out of hotel rooms.

Luckily, at her age, it’s still an adventure and not yet a grind. Being pronounced “the most talented girl in the world” by Oprah doesn’t seem to have jaded her yet.

“Syempre po nakakapagod yung byahe, pero pag nandun na ako sa stage at nagpe-perform ako, naiisip ko na lang ang pagod pag matutulog na ko, (Yes, the trips can be tiring but when I’m performing onstage, I only think of the fatigue come bedtime),” she says. “The events where I sing are enjoyable and I get to perform with big stars, and that banishes the tiredness,” she adds.

Like any star-struck fan, Charice’s Macbook contains her photo album of cherished snaps with the likes of Alicia Keyes, David Archuleta of “American Idol” fame, Nicole Richie, Mariah Carey, Josh Groban and Peter Cetera of Chicago, to name just the more recent additions.

The Mac is also a reminder of just how much Charice owes her present celebrity to the existence of the worldwide web. Like Arnel Pineda, she was discovered on YouTube through videos posted by her fans.

“That’s the main reason I’m here,” she admits. “Because of YouTube, I got invited to Sweden, Korea, the Ellen Degeneres show, then Oprah’s show. That was also where I was discovered by the brother of David Foster (her current producer).”

Through her laptop, Charice is able to keep track of the numerous blogs and fansites devoted to her, as well as her official website charicepempengco.com, although she is leery of actually posting anything.

“I don’t blog. I might miss some websites and people might get offended. So I just view them but don’t post anything.”

Her newfound celebrity has also somewhat curtailed her activities.

“Sometimes when I go malling, I can’t really shop and look around because people ask to have their pictures taken with me. So I don’t go anymore. But yes, I do get to play – mostly with my brother.”

Like many showbiz kids with irregular schedules, Charice has had to opt for home schooling, where she is now in third-year high school.

“Syempre po nakaka-miss din,” she says of having to say goodbye to her friends. “I was in regular school till first year high school so I really miss my classmates. I visited them once and it was a good feeling, but I couldn’t stay long. It feels good to see them and to hear them say they’re proud of me.”

Right now she’s settling for a routine that she describes as “bahay, ABS-CBN-States – ’yun lang po (home-TV studio-the US)” but allows for the possibility that showbiz may not be forever.

“College – I’m still undecided, but given the opportunity, I’d like to study in the US and take up Law. I wanted to be a doctor initially, but I was inspired by Tito Mike (immigration lawyer Mike Garfinkel, whose wife Millie manages her career Flipside). I want to be an entertainment lawyer. But school doesn’t have to be in the US, as long as I get to finish college.”

It all depends, of course, on what the future holds for Charice. Pop superstardom beckons, but she seems wise beyond her years as regards the perils of instant celebrity and its long-term prospects.

“Syempre gusto kong maging superstar, pero gusto ko rin maging lawyer,” she says candidly. “Gusto kong makompleto ang maibibigay ko sa mommy ko, gaya ng sariling bahay. Basta pag nakompleto ko yon, kahit mawala na ako sa showbiz, at least nakompleto ko na ang mga gusto nila. (Of course I’d like to be a superstar but I also want to become a lawyer. I want to give my mom a house and everything she wants. As long as I get to do that, I wouldn’t mind fading out of showbiz).”

It is her mother, after all, who remains her main role model. Raquel Pempengco was a vocalist for Souls Free, a show band. She would take Charice along on her shows, and at age four, the little girl caught the bug.

“I really envy my mom because she was a vocalist in a band, and she influenced me. One time the band asked me to sing and I found myself enjoying it. I asked my mom to teach me how to sing. She didn’t expect that I’d sing well, so in effect, she discovered me.”

Singing is the one thing that comes most naturally, and she doesn’t want to mess that up by thinking too much about it.

“I don’t want to think about it. I’ve joined a lot of singing contests before and I always lost, so I don’t want to think that I’m that good. In fact, in those amateur contests, I would imitate the other contestants whom I idolize because I didn’t think I was good enough. As long as I get to sing the song and feel it, that’s it. When people say I’m good, I just don’t think about it; it makes me uncomfortable.”

She’d also like to show her audiences that she can do more than just the big showpiece ballads. Occasionally she’ll surprise audiences by doing a Miley Cyrus number, or even “Billie Jean” by Michael Jackson. Her own listening these days runs to rhythm and blues, Chris Brown and Rihanna, she says. But audiences have come to expect full birit mode from her, the athletic numbers that showcase her big outsize voice and what she can do with it.

With her “keep it simple” philosophy, Charice doesn’t worry about how much to give to a performance. She always gives it all she’s got.

“I always give 100 per cent; if possible, 110 per cent, because I really want to satisfy my audience. When they go home, I want my performance to be imprinted on their mind.”

Charice will turn 17 next May, most likely in Las Vegas where she’s booked on a promotional tour for her DVD “David Foster and Friends.” Right now, however, she’s still very much a kid at heart, but a kid who’s learned some valuable lessons in life.

“I always say this because I’ve been through it,” she tells aspiring young singers. “If they really dream of being a singer, they need discipline. Don’t take advantage – hintayin mo yung para sa iyo (wait for what’s really meant for you). But don’t give up either. I remember how after ‘Little Big Star,’ I gave up. For one week, my mind was a complete blank because I’ve lost. Good thing some people helped me stand up. ’Wag susuko, kasi talagang may plan si God para sa inyo (Don’t give up because God has a plan for you).”

THE BEST BEACH I HAVE BEEN INTO SO FAR - WELCOME TO BORACAY!

This is a very old pic. Actually this pic was taken during my days in the pharmaceutical industry. I used to be a medical representative in one of the multinational companies here in the Philippines. It was actually a research based multinational japanese company with a branch here in the Philippines.

This shot was taken December during our company's get together christmas party which was held at Club Panoly, Boracay. The beach? Perfect! But I swear I will never go back to boracay again if they will insist that I take the same plane we took when we went there. Let me explain. The plane is like a 15-20 seater plane (very like the jeepney rides I usually take from my place in Uraya)with a flight attendant who will just explain about safety measures and then will go out of the plane before it depart!

Heavens! I have never been too close to heaven only after that time. It's like your just riding a kite! The plane practically sways from one side to another! One advantage??? You'll get to be more religious after the plane ride, I'm sure you'll get to say the name of all saints after you arrive at Caticlan. Brilliant! Don't you think so?

Being a nurse I have ofcourse the basic idea of how important oxygen is in our body. Certain conditions and significant physiological processes can occur with the lack and the over supply of oxygen in the body of various human being. Say... a person with COPD, should not be given higher concentrations of oxygen or else you'll get to alter their bodies motivation to breath.

Oxygen (O2) is one of the most important elements required to sustain life. Without it, our health begins to suffer and we die. My brother in the US saw a press screening a week ago about X man Origins: WOLVERINE and boy! he says, he very much enjoyed the movie. He said it was a great comic book movie. Sure not the best, but a very great ride. Hugh Jackman is always good as Wolverine and he really enjoyed the villain. The action was solid and the story (of course) was great he added. He hope they do more 'Origin' movies about the main X Men. During our childhood we both loved to watch the cartoon series of X man,even during our chat with my bro over the phone, I was kinda excited to watch the movie alrready. I liked hearing his story and how he became Wolverine. My brother said he was really on the edge of my seat during the final fight, it was so entertaining and so cool. The special effects were amazing. He added he will hopefully see this movie again and will highly recommend it. Yeah.. I hope I'll get the chance to see the movie too.

Education is not just about opportunities. Different people may have different understanding on what education really is all about. I practically have a different understanding on what it is all about, infact I even spelled it differently, for me I spell education as; M Y F U T U R E .

What you do in your life today determines the kind of life you will be having in the future. Enhancing your self in an as early time as possible can greatly affect how well you can better your life in the future. A quality education therefore is a key that opens all types of doors to vast land of opportunities.

During my usual net surfing routines I happen to bump into a site of an online education. When I read the site I particularly got focused on their company's statement "A higher degree, A higher purpose", strangely the line brought back my memories during my schooling days where I needed to really tighten up my belt to save my allowances for future expenses at school. I even resorted to working to a fast food chain just so that I can support myself in pursuing my education. When I continued reading the site. I was so amazed about the offers this online education company is actually giving to their students. They actually have this scholarship program thing and a program about tuition saving opportunities. Heavens! Why have none like this existed during the time where I needed to sweat all out the things I needed for my education. My view is that not only this company ensures quality education but more than that they make sure that their students can really finish their degree by providing options that help these students in terms of their finances at school, and that is making this company different from others.

Most of the people around the globe never get the chance to finish high school, leave alone college. For these people, there may be no opportunities that much to later on advance in life in the future. This is particularly true when these people get to have families of their own to raise. But then again, if I may have a personal view about the issue. For me, ignorance nowadays is not just a matter of circumstance but is rather a decision one created.

Having plans of going abroad as a registered nurse, I was thinking of taking of Masters Degreee, I actually happen to scroll about their program on Masters in mental health counseling or I'll just probably take one of their Certificate Programs under Psychology with an option on organizational psychology and development.

Hmmmm... continuing education? that would surely be a long road - but I'll get to it.

Last week I had the chance to go to Manila part of the trip was an important appointment to meet someone in manila and the rest was pure fun. I got the chance to walk thru the fascinating sites of the ever famous MANILA ZOO. During my childhood days I used to dream of going to this place where I thought it would be a place more close to where Tarzan lives.

A little less dismayed by what I saw, it's definitely not the Manila Zoo which I had in mind during my playful years. Its probably because I already had a sight of Davao's Crocodile Park where a bunch of hungry crocs are hovering over a piece of meat with other exotic animals rare indeed. Not to mention my glimpse of the grandiose Philippine Eagle somewhere outskirts in Calinan a place more closer to my home. But nevertheless I still had fun roaming around Manila Zoo. The World Health Organization issued a report on Feb 7 saying smoking tobacco could kill 1 billion people in the 21st century urging the nations to take measures to stop the ever-increasing smoking trends worldwide.

The WHO said no country has done enough to curb tobacco use, which is expected to kill 500 million people worldwide who live today.

The WHO proposed six measures for countries to adopt to fight tobacco smoking including monitoring tobacco use and prevention; protecting people from tobacco smoke; offering help to quit tobacco use, warning people about the dangers of tobacco; enforcing bans on tobacco advertising, promotion and sponsorship; and raising taxes on tobacco.

It seems the report does not explain much of the danger associated with tobacco use. To help readers understand how dangerous tobacco use is, we publish below a summary about the associations between smoking tobacco and various diseases. We hope this could help a few more people quit smoking tobacco.

Smoking and diseases: What you need to know?

Smoking tobacco has been linked to more than two dozen disease and conditions although it is unethical to conduct trials to prove any possible cause-and-effect association. Studies suggest that tobacco use affects every organ of the body and reduce overall health. It is believed that tobacco use is the leading cause of the preventable death and has negative impacts on people of all ages including unborn babies, infants, children, adolescent, adults and seniors.

Smoking tobacco and lung cancer

The most serious adverse effects of smoking tobacco include cancer in the lungs and other organs or parts of the body.

Lung cancer forms in the lung tissue, usually in the cells lining air passages. There are mainly two forms, non-small cell lung cancer and small cell lung cancer. The cancer, one of the leading cancers in the United States, was diagnosed in 213,380 Americans and it killed 160,390 in 2007. Smoking tobacco causes genetic changes in the cells of the lungs that lead to the development of lung cancer.

Research has showed that smoking tobacco can also lead to respiratory and upper digestive tract cancer, particularly cancer of the mouth, throat (pharynx), voice box (larynx) and esophagus. In addition, smoking tobacco is a contributing cause of leukemia and cancers in the bladder, stomach, kidney and pancreas. Women who smoke are at higher risk for developing cervical cancer than those who don't.

Smoking tobacco and other lung diseases

Affected by using tobacco are also other respiratory diseases collectively called chronic obstructive pulmonary disease or COPD including emphysema, chronic bronchitis and asthmatic bronchitis. Smoking tobacco has been linked to an increased risk of respiratory symptoms including coughing, phlegm, wheezing and difficult or labored breathing (dyspnea).

Tobacco smoke contains many toxic chemicals, which directly damage lung tissue and particles that affect the lungs' natural filtering/cleaning system and irritate the bronchial tubes in the lungs which in turns triggers the production of more mucus. Long term tobacco smoking destroys the structure of the lungs reducing their capability to absorb oxygen. Excess mucus in the lungs and problems in adsorbing oxygen are two characteristics of chronic bronchitis.

Long term tobacco use also leads to emphysema of called lung rot, which is a degenerative disease. The most obvious symptom is the difficulty breathing or shortness of breath. Nothing can be done to correct the lung damage. Nearly all cases of emphysema result from long term tobacco smoking. Stopping tobacco use will help curb the progression of the disease.

Smoking tobacco and cardiovascular diseases

Smoking tobacco not only affects the lungs, but cardiovascular health as well. Cardiovascular diseases are diseases of the heart, the blood vessels of the heart and of the systems of blood vessels (veins and arteries) throughout the body and brain.

Smoke or even second hand smoke can affect the heart by reducing the oxygen carried in the blood due to presence of carbon monoxide and other gases; increasing the heart rate due to the decreased oxygen concentration in the blood; and reducing the size of blood vessels due to fat deposits linked to nicotine and due to presence of carbon monoxide which makes blood vessels and arteries smaller limiting the blood supply to the heart.

Smoking tobacco and strokes

Smoking tobacco can both increase blood pressure and fat deposits on the inner walls of blood veins and vessels. Both effects increase risk of stokes including transient ischemic attacks, hemorrhagic and ischemic stroke. In the case of hemorrhagic strokes, a blood vessel bursts inside the brain increasing the pressure in the brain causing injuries to the brain cells. An ischemic stroke, the most serious type, permanently damages brain cells by starving the cells of oxygen and nutrients.

Smokers are 50 percent more likely than non-smokers to have stroke. The more tobacco a person uses, the higher risk he has for a stroke. Those who smoke 25 cigarettes a day have the highest risk of a stroke.

Stopping tobacco use reduces the risk of stroke by 50 percent within a year and to normal levels within five years, according to a study by U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Smoking tobacco and impotence

Smokers including second hand smokers are as much as twice as likely to suffer impotence as non-smokers. Impotence is the constant inability of a man to maintain an erection for sexual activity and affects an estimated 30 million men in the United States. A study conducted in the US showed that healthy men using tobacco developed impotence during a period of eight years even if they did not show any symptoms of heart disease or diabetes. It is possible to fully or at least partially recover erection function by quitting smoking, studies showed.

Smoking tobacco and mouth diseases

Smoking tobacco including cigarettes, cigars or pipes increases the risk of cancer on the lips, in the mouth and in the throat. Cigarette smokers are six times more likely to die from cancers in the mouth. Cigar smokers are twice as likely to die as non-smokers from mouth related disease.

Now when I feel like I want to eat because I am stressed, sad, or board I feel those feelings and write them in a journal if I have to take a walk or call a friend I do but most of all I don't give into the craving I identify what is going on and I know how to stop the trap.

Grab a journal or something you can write in. Keep a food journal and write down what you eat. You can also write down the feeling you are having when you are eating. This way you will better understand why and for what reason you are eating. Do this for a minimum of 2 weeks and you will come to know if you are an emotional eater or not. If you are come to find solution's that work for you and you will find that you're eating habit's will change.
